Innovative development of black dye using bacteria.
“Black is the most popular color to wear, and therefore creates a lot of water and toxic waste, especially as a synthetic dye.
Our solution is to replace toxic black dye with a bio-friendly bacteria alternative for a safer, and more sustainable future.”

““We at BioBlack strive to give the community creative freedom as well as to educate them in the importance of maintaining a sustainable lifestyle through our innovative black pigment produced by bacteria.” ”
Stamping
Each stamp is organically formed in a petri dish and then stamped onto the silk dupioni before it is placed in an autoclaved and dyed black.
These photographs illustrate the BioCouture gown after each stamp has individually been painted black with the tannin paste.

Kent State Today, an on-campus news publication published an article about BioBlack, and outlined what our experiences are while working on this project. If you would like to gain an insight into our experience, then you can read about it here.

Homebodies
Homebodies is a collection that is inspired by my beautiful homeland, South Africa. We are mother-earth’s homebodies, and we need to protect her so that generations after us can walk barefoot on the ground, and enjoy the warm sun-rays.
I have designed a virtual shopping experience that is sustainable and eco-friendly. The fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries on earth. To combat the toxic dyes that pollute our water I have developed a safe, toxin-free, bacterial dye that compliments a 3D virtual shopping experience.
Customers create a 3D avatar with their specific measurements. They are then able to try on the clothes in this app to see how it fits their unique bodies. They do not need to go to a physical store to try on any clothing, so this cuts down on any carbon footprint.
Please take a look at my proposal below to discover the idea and collection in greater detail.
